The rivalry between Iran and Saudi Arabia has been going on for over 40 years now one is the fiercest In the Middle East even though these two countries are close to each other but their worlds apart here are seven key differences in the daily lives of people in Iran and Saudi Arabia holidays Iran has a total of 27 public holidays most of their holiday celebrate importantly things on the Islamic calendar like the Ashura and the end of Ramadan not only that they celebrate the Persian New Year called no truce which is one of humanity's oldest holidays and dates back over 5000 years they also celebrate important events from their recent history such as Islamic Revolution they all nationalization day and Islamic Republic day Saudi Arabia on the other hand only has three public holidays.
However, they celebrate two of them for multiple days the end of Ramadan in May is celebrated with five days of feasts and family time the next holiday Eid al-Adha takes place during the last month of the Islamic calendar and is celebrated over 11 days with feasts and given to the poor and needy the holiday ends with a pilgrimage to Mecca and finally the last holiday Saudi Arabia's National Day .which is only celebrated for one day just imagine for a second eleven days off in a row every single year now that sounds like a great holiday to me currency Iran's currency is the Iranian rial they have nine banknotes that go as low as 1,000 dl and as high as 100,000 all which have the founder of the Islamic republic Ayatollah Khomeini on the front and various Iranian plants and places on the back of the Iranian rial has a pretty low value on the global scale with 1000 real equal in just two cents in both the United States dollar and the euro Saudi Arabia's currency is known as the Saudi riyal they have just five banknotes which range from 5 to 500 reals and mostly depict important Islamic locations in the country the value of the Saudi riyal is much higher than that of Iran's with 1000 DL equal in 266 points 67 US Dollars and 246 points 74 euros actually .
when I was traveling around Iran, the money was so confusing it was kind of like you'd be paying millions for different kinds of things that you wouldn't know how much money that was you know and there would be loads and loads of back notes in your wallet every single day it was a pretty interesting experience food Iranian food is an amalgamation of Turkish Lebanese Central Asian and Caucasian cuisines as all of those regions were once part of the Persian Empire typical Iranian dishes combined rice vegetable meat fruits and nuts along with spices like saffron turmeric and dried lime kebabs of lamb and beef vegetable and meat juice Hardy and meaty soups and rice pilaf are all popular dishes with tons of different variations throughout the country Saudi Arabia mousse is very similar to the cuisine of other Gulf countries some popular Saudi dishes include good sand sandy casbah and of course my personal favorite could never I'm personally a huge fan of the food in the Middle East the only tiny tiny problem is that it's incredibly hard to find vegetarian options because they all eat meat 24/7 restaurants Iran has a rich food culture and families love to go out to restaurants to share meals but after the Revolution people started to get tired of the limited food options they had and fast food started to become very very popular while it's still illegal to open up any Western fast food chains restaurants like McDonald's Pizza Hut sheet shack Subway's and Kentucky House have all gained a loyal following of the radians in recent years in Saudi Arabia the most a popular form of entertainment outside the home is shopping and dining out restaurant culture is very strong In Saudi Arabia, it's normal for friends and families to eat out addresses together with a few times per week if such a staple in people's life that even.
when the oil industry takes a hit and the economy falters a bit restaurant sales stay the same I'm not sure which ripoff the name I like the most whether it's masters or Shake Shack care what do you think let me know in the comment section down below education Iran has mandatory primary education for all children ages 6 to 12 and the country offers free public schools as well as expensive private schools all of the schools in Iran are single-sex meaning they're either girls or all boys the curriculum taught in Iranian schools involves mathematics Persian literature science social studies and most importantly the study of the Koran, Iran also boasts over 300 universities and students as well as their families tend to become very competitive when it comes to getting into the best universities by comparison Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in education and educational spending mix of eight point eight percent of the total GDP which is almost double the global average just like in Iran boys and girls are never in the same class and Islam remains a core element of their curriculum but they also stress heavily the importance of STEM subjects Arabic and English language and physical education Saudi Arabia has a total of 80 universities and two-thirds of all graduates are women wow this is really surprising because just a couple of years ago women still couldn't have a driver's license in Saudi Arabia sports Iran has a long history of traditional sports that include things like horse racing ritualistic bodybuilding and coffee is their form of wrestling however in the 20th century, Iran was introduced to Western team sports and they quickly took over rugby and volleyball have both become very popular but the most popular The sport in Iran by far is football the Iranian national team won the agent of 1968 74 and 78 participation and sports took a big dip following the Iranian Revolution but they're now coming back and regaining the popularity they once had like Iran.
Saudi Arabia has a history of traditional sports there's include things like falconry camel racing and hunting with hummus and like Iran the most popular sport in Saudi Arabia by far is football and they too have won the Asian Cup three times they have also competed in the FIFA World Cup four times port is an important part of Saudi Arabia culture and they encourage their children to participate in different types of physical activity language the national language of Iran is Persian or Farsi and it has been spoken for 1,000 years about 53 percent of Iranians speak Persian as their native language 18% speak Azerbaijani 10% sleep Kurdish 15% speak other Iranian languages like Lackey mustn't cry me Lori and Malucci and just 2% of people speak Arabic on On the other hand Arabic is the official language of Saudi Arabia it's spoken by just about every native Saudi person and because of Saudi Arabia's huge oil sector they have a lot of foreigners living and working there so English is also widely spoken and is mandatory for students to learn in school it's quite obvious that Iran and Saudi Arabia are very different countries but I hope that in the future they can overcome their differences and finally, become good friends inshallah.
